Did you work for Ma Bell?

Beginning in the 1910s the Bell System had facilities operating in the Garden State. Throughout the 20th century, this company pioneered innovations that transformed every part of modern-day life.

Bell Telephone Laboratories, American Telephone & Telegraph (AT&T), and Western Electric employed tens of thousands of New Jersey residents through its more than 100-year tenure in the state. From highflying linemen risking their safety atop telephone poles, to women trained to connect calls across the country, to the world’s leading engineers working to answer logistical questions of communication, New Jerseyans from all walks of life supported the ground-breaking technology of the company.

Did you or someone you know work for the Bell System in New Jersey? We want to hear from you! Morven wants to know about your memorabilia, photos, and first hand stories! If you worked for AT&T, Western Electric or Bell Telephone Laboratories before 1984 and would like to share your personal artifacts, photos, or stories with us, please fill out the form on this page. If you have personal artifacts please let us know before August 31, 2021 to be considered for inclusion in the exhibition.
