Bronze Fennel‘s dark, smoky foliage is attractive in perennial borders or annual containers, where it adds a soft, airy, somewhat mysterious look. The yellow flower heads are pretty, and produce edible seeds (leaves and blossoms are also good to eat, tasting sweetly of licorice). Our state butterfly, the Eastern Black Swallowtail, will lay her eggs here to provide food for caterpillars when they hatch. Don’t worry, they won‘t eat much and will be fun to watch as they grow! Tolerates poor soil, best in sun.
